Vodafone Australia is Australia’s third largest carrier owned by Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Ltd with 7.2 milion users and covering 94% of the population. Vodafone has around 15.2% market share.
In late 2010 the Vodafone Australia network began to exhibit severe problems regarding call quality, voicemail, SMS reliability and data speeds. As a result Vodafone are currently trying to repair their network and gain back the confidence of customers.
They are also spending a billion dollars to rebuild a new Huawei based network that supports HSPA+, DC-HSPA (16Mbps) and LTE (40Mbps). The DC-HSPA and LTE release is currently available in selected locations.
See more information on Vodafone’s Network expansion plans.
Vodafone announced they will be re-farming their 850MHz band from 3G to 4G some time next year. The 3G 850 network will then cease to operate. Vodafone’s 2G/GSM network will be turned off on September 30, 2017
